Ovulation sticks, temperature taking and the rest can often mean that couples are under a lot of stress whilst trying to conceive and stress has a huge impact on health and fertility.
Reflexology can help prepare the body for conception, by relaxing the body and mind, balancing hormones and regulating menstruation cycles. It may also help reduce the symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis. *
Reflexology is recommended a few months before you try to conceive to help prepare the body both emotionally and physically and help ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby.
During treatment, advice is given with regard to diet and lifestyle to maximise your chances of conceiving and positive thinking and visualisation are encouraged.
Advice should always be sought from your GP if you have not conceived after one year of trying or there are any changes to your menstrual cycle.
If medical assistance is required to help you conceive, reflexology can help support IVF and other assisted conception procedures. Reflexology canhelp reduce stress and anxiety, assist with the side effects of medication and help to increase blood flow tothe ovaries and the endometrium. Treatment packages can be offered to support the various stages of an IVF cycle to include ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval and embryo transfer.
During IVF, it is important to take good care of yourself, eat well and get plenty of rest. The mind plays an important role and clients are advised to visualise what they are trying to achieve during the various stages of IVF. Meditation and yoga during this time can also be helpful.
It is advisable to notify your medical practitioner if you are having complementary therapies during medical treatment.
*The FDZ research committee in Denmark has conducted a number of studies relating to the effectiveness of reflexology in woman suffering with PCOS and fertility issues – see articles by Lone Victoria Schumann and Leila Ericksen - http://www.fdz.dk/wss/default.asp?page=2602.
